Mercedes Birthday
August 16 2009
So there I was, a week over due. 41 weeks pregnant and ready to have a baby! lol The Dr. told us to come in on the following Sunday to be induced. That day could not come fast enough! When it finally arrived I was feeling brave and ready to take on labor!
When we got there at 8:00am the Dr. told us he would insert a gel ring that would soften my cervix and help bring on contractions. They told me I could go home for the day while the ring did its thing. Then they would induce my contraction by putting me on the drip. I was nervous...because everyone I had talked to said that being induced was a much more painful labor, but oh well I was ready!
Not even 10 minutes after they inserted the gel ring I started having contractions! No one was expecting it...specially not me! So when the pain started, I got a little panicky lol not knowing what was happening. The nurse said it was just contraction and that I would still go home if I wanted or stay there. I decided to go home where I would be more comfortable! They told me to come back to the hospital at 2:00pm. They said if I felt like I needed to I could come in sooner.
We went home. My mom tried to make me as comfortable as possible. Dustin and I tried to get some sleep while we were home. But every time I dosed off a contraction would wake me up. It was getting VERY painful but I just kept telling myself that it was only going to get worse, and the more pain meant the faster I was dilating, which meant the faster I could get the epidural! lol. I was REALLY hoping that I was Dilated enough to get the epidural when I got there (3-4cm).
Just before 2:00pm came around I had a nice warm bath, highly recommended when in labor! lol Then off we went to the hospital.
When we got there I found out that I was much farther along then expected, about 5 cm! Boy was I happy to hear that! Bring on the drugs! lol! So as we waited for the Dr. to get there with the epidural the pain was sooo intense. I was dilating about 1cm every 15-20 minutes! I was the only one in the maternity ward having a baby lol they took me right into the delivery room. The Dr. was taking an awful long time with that epidural. By time he got there I was already 9.5cm dilated! Close call because they can't give an epidural after you are fully dilated.
So now I was pain free and ready to push out a baby! The actual pushing process took about 2 hours. The Dr. got worried because the baby's heart rate increased because she was a little stuck behind my pubic bone. So he had to put the vacuum on her head to pull her down just a little. Then I pushed her the rest of the way out, revealing a beautiful baby girl!
Boy was I tired! One of the first things that came to my mind was yay now I can get some sleep! lol! But I was wrong. Moments later came all the family and friends.... But what a wonderful experience it was to give birth to her! I was sure proud of myself for going though all the dilating without any pain meds! Anyways here is some pictures from that wonderful day! (Yes I look like crap, but hey I just gave birth to a 7 lb 15 oz baby! lol)
